St. James Church
St .James Church Burnopfield and Dipton with St.Thomas Harelaw and Annfield Plain
Welcome to St James Church ! We are a small, friendly church in Burnopfield, a village in County Durham.
We have a strong tradition of prayerful worship and community service, as well as playing a key role in the life of the village.
You are assured of a warm welcome, both at our regular services and also at our special services held to mark Christmas, Easter and the other significant events in the church calendar. We also plan a number of community-based events throughout the year.
Our services
We currently hold one service a week, a spoken Eucharist each Sunday at 11.15 am. In addition we also now hold a Morning Prayer service each Thursday at 10.00am.
You can also access streaming services from Durham Cathedral via the Durham Cathedral Facebook page.

An end of Year message from Father Keith.
Dear friends,
May I take this opportunity to firstly thank you for your faithfulness, hard work, generosity and friendship over the past year. 2025 has seen a lot of changes at St James, and your grace and patience has enabled it to bear much fruit for the kingdom of God. And above all may I wish you, and all those you love, a blessed Christmas and peaceful New Year.
Your brother in Christ Fr Keith
Benefice magazine.
Pauline Meek, Lay Reader at St Thomas’, is in the process of trying to put together a simple benefice magazine where things of interest, amusement or comfort could be shared across our benefice. It doesn’t have to be churchy, just something to inspire, inform and keep in touch. But this very much depends on you, the congregation members, and if you are prepared to contribute. If you would like to do so, please send items to Pauline at: Pauline_gangof4@hotmail.com, or you can give a hard copy to Fr Keith and Pauline will type it up. Thank you.
Prayers for the Ukraine .
Prayers for the Middle East.
O God of all justice and peace we cry out to you in the midst of the pain and trauma of violence and fear which prevails in the Holy Land.
Be with those who need you in these days of suffering; we pray for people of all faiths – Jews, Muslims and Christians and for all people of the land.
While we pray to you, O Lord, for an end to violence and the establishment of peace, we also call for you to bring justice and equity to the peoples.
Guide us into your kingdom where all people are treated with dignity and honour as your children for to all of us you are our Heavenly Father.
In Jesus’ name we pray.

On 23 March, let’s take time to connect, supporting the millions of people who are grieving, and remembering the family, friends, neighbours and colleagues we’ve lost during the pandemic. While life isbeginning to return to normal for some people, several million people are still living with the trauma of loss, and not being able to grieve properly. This includes many children as well as adults. We need to
come together, in our streets, workplaces, schools and communities, as well as with the nation at large, to acknowledge and soothe this pain. Let’s also take the opportunity to remember the people of Ukraine at this
time. Come light a candle and sit in church for as long or as little as you wish, and remember the anniversary of the first national lockdown on March 23rd 2020. -
