St. James church collects on a continuous basis at three collection points within the village of Burnopfield , this has taken place over several years and the special annual harvest festival collection has always yielded very generous donations. This year we are encouraging people to donate toiletries, feminine hygeine items and household cleaning products, which are all in short supply at the Stanley Foodbank.   Thank you.

On 23 March, let’s take time to connect, supporting the millions of people who are grieving, and remembering the family, friends, neighbours and colleagues we’ve lost during the pandemic. While life isbeginning to return to normal for some people, several million people are still living with the trauma of loss, and not being able to grieve properly. This includes many children as well as adults. We need to
come together, in our streets, workplaces, schools and communities, as well as with the nation at large, to acknowledge and soothe this pain. Let’s also take the opportunity to remember the people of Ukraine at this
time. Come light a candle and sit in church for as long or as little as you wish, and remember the anniversary of the first national lockdown on March 23rd 2020.

Plans are in hand for an event to take place in the hall on Friday June 3rd to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. We are hoping to organise this following the success of past

hire a table. This will take the place of the traditional
Christmas Fair so we do need people’s support .

We have been able to book Glendale Choir for a concert. The Glendale is a mixed voice four-part choir which has been in existence for over 100 years. Tickets are available at £8 including a glass of wine or juice. Please try and support this event.

Unfortunately June Gledhill and her music group have cancelled this event due to unforeseen circumstances.

We have organized an exhibition of memorabilia about both the Church and the wide community. Join us to reminisce and see how things have changed during this period.

We have just received an acknowledgement that £122.46 was collected for Willowburn hospice in the period ending  February 2023.

This was St James’s nominated charity for an earlier period which was disrupted by the pandemic

Thank you to everyone for the recent food bank contributions. Harry Charlton ( foodbank coordinator) informs us that 18 bags of food have been delivered to Stanley. Well done to all concerned.

This year’s appeal – from 12-18 May - is focusing on work in Burundi, one of the most densely populated and poorest countries in Africa. Heavily reliant on agriculture, it’s also one of the least prepared to combat the effects of climate change, including droughts, floods and landslides. The global cost of living crisis has intensified the challenges: more than 70 per cent of the population live in poverty and more than half of children are chronically malnourished.
