The Still Service

On the Second Sunday of each month at 6.00pm

Still is a time to give space for God, space for prayer. A time to pause and consider in the hustle and bustle of our lives. Still will be based around Night Prayer/Compline with stillness, quiet, space, candles, silence, short readings, recorded music and simple prayer.

The group meets on the last Wednesday of every month in St James Church at 2.00 pm.

It is a service lasting about 40 minutes, starting with a short meditation followed by a piece of music leading into 30 minutes of silent contemplative prayer.  A piece of music follows the silence, and ending with a short prayer.

Prayer During the outbreak of the Coronavirus

As you may know, in light of recent Government Guidance all services have been suspended in Church until further notice but there are still ways that we can pray and worship together, even whilst in our own homes and we hope that these prayer packs will help.

But as well as this

  • Prayers will be said in Church by the Clergy on behalf of the people at 9am and 530pm and Holy Communion held at 12 noon each day across the Benefice
  • Every Sunday the clergy will hold a Eucharist service at the usual service times of 9am and 10.45am in Tanfield and Burnopfield respectively.
  • St James’ Church in Burnopfield will be open for prayer from 2pm until 3pm every Wednesday when food may also be left for the Foodbank
  • St Margaret’s Church will be open for prayer from 2pm until 3pm every Monday when food may also be left for the Foodbank
  • You can also follow us on Facebook and on a Church Near You for both parishes and via Twitter@StJBurnopfield and via the website for St James Burnopfield – although the content is for the whole Benefice.

Please do get in touch if you want a chat, or need anything. And do not be surprised if we maybe call you once in a while as well.
